Chinese frame SUVs from BAIC Beijing, specifically the BJ40 Plus, have begun arriving at Russian dealerships. Sales are anticipated to start in June, according to representatives from autonews.ru who spoke with several car dealerships. One dealer in Moscow noted that the model can be ordered at a price of 3.76 million rubles, signaling a premium segment positioning for the brand in the Russian market.
The BAIC Beijing BJ40 Plus is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine delivering 225 horsepower. The engine couples with an eight-speed automatic transmission and a permanent all wheel drive system, aiming to offer both confident on road behavior and capable off road performance in varying road conditions commonly encountered across Russia.
Standard equipment highlights include full LED lighting, rugged all terrain tires, protective side steps, a removable plastic roof panel, and 17-inch alloy wheels. Inside, buyers can expect a rear view camera with parking sensors, dual zone climate control, a digital instrument cluster, and a 10-inch multimedia display that supports contemporary connectivity features for daily commuting and longer trips alike.
Previously, Russian dealers had started taking orders for the BAIC X35 as well. In early April, the Avtotor plant in Kaliningrad began production of BAIC X35 and BAIC U5 Plus, marking an expansion of BAIC’s local manufacturing presence and a broader mix of Chinese crossovers available to Russian customers. Market observers note that the X35 and U5 Plus are positioned in tandem with the BJ40 Plus to offer a family of BAIC crossovers that cover entry, mid, and upper segments within the growing SUV segment in Russia and neighboring markets.
