Hidden features exist in many vehicles, often among the most affordable models on the market. A well known automotive expert explains these chips in detail, highlighting among other things a popular secret discussed on various forums that may be entirely new to a typical driver.

The topic here is the automatic door lock activated at the start of movement. It may already be operating in some cars, and if not, that does not mean the feature does not exist at all.

Sometimes these hidden functions require flashing the control units, but often they can be enabled independently, directly from the car, and the auto-lock function is one of them. Three common approaches are most frequently encountered.

  • Option 1: In most vehicles, the automatic door lock is activated by pressing and holding the lock button for 3 to 5 seconds. A beep is heard at the moment of activation.
  • Option 2: On many Skoda and Volkswagen models, the feature can be turned on via the car’s media system menu in the settings.
  • Option 3: In cars from the Lada Kalina and Granta families, the auto-lock can be enabled by turning on the ignition (key to position 1) and simultaneously pressing and holding the close and open buttons on the key for 5 seconds. The function can be disabled in the same manner.

Additionally, on the Granta and Kalina models there is a glass window shutter: when the doors are closed or opened, the glass can be raised or lowered completely from the key fob—this is activated by holding the close or open button.
