Great Wall Motor (GWM) has secured design patents in Russia for a forthcoming Cannon P05 medium-frame pickup, signaling intent to extend its global footprint. The vehicle has not yet debuted in its home market of China, where the brand originates, making the Russian filings a notable early milestone in the model’s lifecycle.

The Cannon P05 is described as a four-door, five-seat pickup built with steel stamped components that align with the Tank 500 SUV platform. The Tank 500, produced since 2021, belongs to the GWM family, and the P05 is said to ride on a variant of the same platform with an extended wheelbase. The suspension setup is spring-based, featuring independent suspension at the front and a solid axle at the rear, paired with a drive shaft across the line. Official measurements place the vehicle at approximately 5465 mm in length, 1992 mm in width, and 1960 mm in height, with a 3350 mm wheelbase. Industry observers anticipated its public unveiling before the close of 2022, with a standard configuration initially expected to use a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine producing around 224 horsepower, paired with an automatic transmission and four-wheel drive.

Rospatent records indicate two Russian registrations for the Cannon P05: a standard version and a variant equipped with an off-road body kit. However, registering the design in Russia does not guarantee a market launch in the federation. Analysts suggest the filings are likely precautionary actions to safeguard intellectual property across major markets, effectively creating a legal shield for the vehicle’s appearance as the model moves toward potential release.
At present, GWM’s Russian lineup includes two pickups, the Wingle 7 and Poer. The Wingle 7 is priced from 2,999,000 rubles, while the Poer starts at 3,999,000 rubles. The company’s strategic approach in Russia appears aimed at leveraging existing product channels while exploring future expansion possibilities for the Cannon P05 and related platforms in the region.
