In September 2024, GAC plans to bring a new Emkoo crossover to Russia, as reported by the news portal Chinese Cars. The launch signals the brand’s ongoing expansion into the regional market and its commitment to offering contemporary SUVs with strong value propositions.
GAC Emkoo first appeared in China last spring, and in Russia its size is comparable to the well known GAC GS5 crossover. Measuring 4680 mm in length with a 2750 mm wheelbase, the Emkoo is positioned as a mid sized model designed to balance interior space with city friendly maneuverability.
In the Chinese lineup, the base Emkoo is powered by a 1.5 liter turbo engine delivering 177 horsepower and 270 Nm of torque, paired with a seven speed automated transmission. A more powerful option features a 2.0 liter engine producing 252 horsepower and 400 Nm, paired with an eight speed automatic. The top tier is a hybrid variant rated at 182 horsepower. The vehicle uses a multi link rear suspension and front wheel drive across the range.
The standard equipment list highlights a projection screen, a 12 speaker Yamaha audio system, multiple cabin cameras, ambient lighting, and a suite of driver assistance features, underscoring GAC’s emphasis on comfort and safety. In China, Emkoo priced from 119,800 to 152,900 yuan, which at the time of reporting translated to roughly 1.53 to 1.95 million rubles according to the prevailing exchange rates.
GAC Emkoo is slated to be one of four brand introductions in Russia in 2024, following the M8 minivan and GS3 crossover, plus an unnamed model. The current Russian lineup already includes the second generation GS5 and GS8 crossovers, reflecting GAC’s broader strategy to expand its SUV offerings in the market.
The development comes amid statements that a record number of cars have been imported into Russia since the start of the year, highlighting growing interest in new models from international brands and signaling broader shifts in the regional automotive landscape.
