The Ford Bronco in a three door configuration bears a striking resemblance to the Lada Niva in compact, rugged form. An expert from a leading Russian automotive publication, Alexander Vinogradov, chose this SUV for a test drive to assess its off-road capabilities and on-road behavior.
Powered by a 270 horsepower four‑cylinder turbocharged petrol engine paired with a 10‑speed automatic transmission, the Bronco carries a price tag around 69.5 thousand dollars. In ruble terms, that figure translated to roughly 5 million at the end of 2022, with additional customs and recycling costs that could reach several more million. The total comes to about 7 million rubles when all fees are tallied.
For that level of money, buyers get a compact yet seriously capable SUV that blends modern tech with true off-road ability.
1. Access to vertical walls
Even though the claim sounds dramatic, the Bronco can handle steep obstacles with the right technique. The approach angle nears 45 degrees, and with precise steering input, the vehicle can tackle heavy impediments. Add nearly 12 inches of ground clearance, a controlled downshift, locking differentials, and a deactivated front stabilizer, and the Bronco demonstrates genuine off-road poise right from the base model.
2. U-turn
The Trail Turn Assist feature is clever, straightforward, and highly effective. It brakes the inside rear wheel, allowing the Bronco to pivot on the spot with remarkable ease.
3. Unsinkable interior
The interior is engineered to resist water intrusion. Electronics stay safeguarded during wading or when washing the car. Water cannot reach sensitive components through the buttons, and the floor features drain holes with removable plugs, enabling quick cleanup after exposure to water.
4. More gas — fewer problems
The Bronco’s suspension absorbs rough surfaces without drama, whether it is speed bumps, curbs, roots, or rocks. On smooth asphalt, it remains composed, corners with minimal lean, and maintains predictable handling.
5. Shortage of spare parts
Parts compatibility is strong. Consumables align with items used on other models that roam our roads, making them easy to find at most auto stores. The sole exception is the air filter, which is supplied to order.
