Autoteka’s latest survey reveals that only a small fraction of car owners plan to purchase their next vehicle within the current year. Just 14 percent express immediate buying intent, while a larger share looks ahead, with 43 percent considering a future purchase and 45 percent citing mileage considerations. A minority, 13 percent, found this question difficult to answer. Among those aiming to replace their current car with a used one, preferences show a preference for newer models: 17 percent want under three years old, 13 percent seek a vehicle aged between three and five years, and 11 percent favor cars aged five to ten years.
To another city for a worthy copy
The data highlights a strong willingness to travel for the right car. A striking 87 percent of drivers would travel to another city to acquire a vehicle, and 44 percent of Russians would buy a car in a nearby city within 100 kilometers, closely matched by 42 percent who would venture to a city farther away. Age influences mobility: 19 percent of those aged 45 to 54 would not travel to another city for a car, 27 percent of owners aged 55 to 64 would abstain, and among those aged 65 and older the share rises to 37 percent.
Which used car should never be bought?
Safety and reliability drive decisions for used-car buyers. The survey shows that 44 percent would refuse a used car if it has a lien or has been pledged, while 36 percent avoid any car that has been in an accident. Technical defects, including electrical or engine problems, deter 26 percent, and 25 percent would not consider a vehicle that has been used in taxi services or carpooling. Only 17 percent would reject a car with twisted mileage, suggesting most respondents do not view mileage irregularities as a major obstacle.
Furthermore, 72 percent of respondents intend to obtain a vehicle history report, checking VIN or registration details before making a used-car purchase. The survey, which included more than 6,000 car owners, underscores the growing importance of transparency and verification in the used-car market. These insights reflect ongoing consumer caution and the demand for reliable information as buyers weigh options across cities and generations. (Autoteka survey data, attribution)
