The Geely group and its technology partner Baidu have started mass production of the Jiyue 01 electric crossover in China, signaling a strategic move to broaden practical urban electric mobility. The launch underscores the collaboration between Geely’s manufacturing scale and Baidu’s prowess in intelligent driving and connectivity, aiming to make a capable electric crossover more accessible for daily use.

Manufacturing of the Jiyue 01 takes place at Geely’s Ningbo facility, the same plant that houses production lines for Zeekr models such as the 001 and 009. The crossover measures 4853 millimeters in length and sits on a 3000 millimeter wheelbase, placing it in the compact-to-mid-size crossover segment. With configurations that yield a driving range of 550 to 720 kilometers on a single charge under typical driving conditions, the Jiyue 01 demonstrates improved range continuity while leveraging the SEA modular platform that also underpins Zeekr vehicles. The shared assembly lines and production principles highlight a unified strategy for electrified mobility within the same architectural family.

On the propulsion front, the base variant relies on a single electric motor mounted on the rear axle, producing roughly 272 horsepower. A more capable all-wheel-drive version is available with two electric motors delivering a combined 544 horsepower, enhancing acceleration and traction across varying weather and road surfaces. Inside, the cabin emphasizes digital interaction, featuring a minimal number of physical controls and a dominant touchscreen interface that coordinates vehicle systems, climate control, navigation, and connected services. This design aligns with current electric vehicle trends toward streamlined interiors while emphasizing a user-friendly experience for drivers who expect high-tech features. Sales are planned to commence in October, with pricing around 260 thousand yuan, presenting a competitive entry point for families and urban commuters seeking a practical, technology-forward crossover. The potential for entry into additional markets, including North America, will depend on regulatory approvals, charging infrastructure development, and regional demand, yet the product’s blend of range, performance, and connectivity positions it as a viable option for expanding electric vehicle portfolios in Canada and the United States.

Earlier in the year, automotive media noted Volkswagen’s unveiling of a new Tiguan generation, signaling ongoing competition and collaboration within the global crossover sector. This broader market activity highlights how automakers are expanding electrified offerings while balancing efficiency, practicality, and user experience for a diverse, North American audience and beyond.
