This year, the Moscow electric vehicle plant is set to produce the first 100 commercial EVM Pro trucks powered by electric traction. Interfax, citing the press service of the St. Petersburg startup Electric Vehicles Manufacturing Rus, notes that the technical launch is planned for September and the mass production inauguration is expected in the fourth quarter of 2022.
The EMR production facility is being built within the Technopolis Moscow Special Economic Zone. The plant is compact, covering about 3,000 square meters, and will have the capacity to manufacture up to 1,000 vehicles annually. In February, the company received approval from the interdepartmental committee for SPIC 2.0, with the contract signed in September.
The team is currently installing equipment and assembling production lines. The equipment list includes 100 machines for various purposes, some of which come from well-known Tesla facilities. A portion of the equipment is developed in-house by EMR engineers, enabling the company to acquire European counterparts when needed, according to Ilya Rashkin, the CEO of EMR.
The electric vehicle EVM Pro was publicly introduced on February 22, 2022, at the SPIEF forum. The design relies on a UAZ Profi chassis. EMR states that it is independently developing power and on-board electronics, manufacturing electric motors, and planning a transition to Russian batteries by the end of the year. The current battery setup claims a range of about 300 kilometers. The vehicle weighs around 3.5 tons and offers a payload of up to 1 ton.
Plans call for several variants, including a cargo version, a eurovan canopy, an isothermal van, and a refrigerated van. The company reports about 500 pre-orders to date, suggesting that the most frequent uses are last-mile delivery and internal logistics for large enterprises.
The announced price of the EVM Pro has already been disclosed. A feature called “Behind the Wheel” is accessible on Odnoklassniki, the social platform referenced by the company for customer engagement.
