Russian-made windshield wipers are slated to equip Lada vehicles starting in 2024, as the automaker moves to replace imports with domestically produced components. This shift comes after discussions reported by RBC, citing Daniil Chernenko, a board member of NPK Avtopribor, who outlined that a domestic supply strategy is being pursued to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers for essential vehicle parts.

Under the plan, the Avtopribor plant located in Vladimir is expected to manufacture and deliver about 100,000 blades and wiper assemblies per year beginning in 2024. This quantity would account for roughly a quarter of AvtoVAZ’s annual demand for windshield wipers, signaling a significant step toward localizing critical supply chains. The total contract value has not been disclosed publicly, but the arrangement underscores Avtopribor’s growing role in stabilizing the supply of key automotive components for one of Russia’s leading carmakers.

AvtoVAZ has identified Avtopribor as a long-term supplier for windshield wiper arms and brushes, reinforcing the strategic importance of domestic production in the company’s procurement strategy. Avtopribor itself was established in July 2018, expanding from an existing Vladimir-based production facility. It is regarded as the largest producer of electrical equipment and components used in automobile assembly plants within the Russian Federation, reflecting a rapid rise in capabilities aimed at supporting modern vehicle manufacturing through locally sourced parts.

Earlier reports indicated that AvtoVAZ postponed a corporate holiday due to interruptions in the supply of essential components that hinder the assembly of complete vehicles. This development highlights the broader challenges faced by manufacturers in maintaining steady production schedules amid evolving supply conditions and the ongoing push toward domestic content agreements that can mitigate risk and improve reliability for both producers and consumers.
