Mass production of a low-cost compact crossover, the Chevrolet Tracker, has started in Uzbekistan with the launch of a new fourth generation. The full cycle of manufacturing the vehicle, including welding and body painting, took place at UzAuto Motors, the national automaker. The first commercial copies departed the line on July 18.
The assembly of the Chevrolet Tracker at Asaka plants fits into UzAuto’s wide modernization program that began in July 2019. The model rides on GM GEM (Global Emerging Markets) technology, a platform designed for budget models targeted at developing markets.
The project value for producing cars in Uzbekistan on the GM GEM platform is 620 million dollars. This figure covers license acquisitions from American partners, plant modernization, and localization of component production.
Plans call for an annual output of 80,000 Chevrolet Trackers, with strong export interest toward CIS markets. Russia was a potential destination but remains on hold due to sanctions impacting that country.
The UzAuto Motors press office notes that a substantial portion of the state-of-the-art equipment installed at Asaka supports GM GEM needs, including laser and plasma welding systems and laser body geometry measurement devices.
The locally assembled Chevrolet Tracker is equipped with a 1.2-liter Ecotec turbo petrol engine delivering 132 horsepower and 197 Nm of torque. Buyers have a 6-speed automatic transmission, with front-wheel drive standard; a 4×4 drivetrain is not offered.

The vehicle measures 4270 mm in length, 1791 mm in width, and 1627 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2570 mm and a ground clearance of 161 mm.
In Uzbekistan, the model goes on sale starting August 30. The top configuration includes climate control, cruise control, keyless entry, push-button start, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, wireless smartphone charging, LED headlights, and a full suite of safety features such as automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and parking assist.
Uzbekistan becomes the third country to launch production of the new Tracker, following China and Brazil.
