A manufacturing initiative is underway to introduce the Chevrolet Onix sedan into Kazakhstan, driven by the Uzbek automaker UzAuto Motors. The plan envisions a light assembly approach at the Allur factory facilities, with an annual output target of about 30,000 units. The Onix project is a result of discussions between Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, signaling a high-level collaboration aimed at expanding regional automotive production and market access.

In the early months of 2022, the site socialbites.ca highlighted ambitions to bring the Tracker and Onix models to the Russian market. Subsequently, it was reported that shipments of Chevrolet vehicles from Uzbekistan to Russia were paused in response to sanctions announced in April, a development tracked by Eurasianet. This sequence underscores the shifting dynamics of cross-border auto trade in the region and the impact of external policy measures on expansion plans.

Within Uzbekistan, the Chevrolet Onix is manufactured with a 1.2-liter engine lineup offering 90 horsepower and a more potent 132 horsepower option. Customers can choose between a five-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic. The vehicle’s interior features an 8-inch infotainment display, climate control, heated front seats, and windscreen wipers designed for reliability. Standard equipment includes 15-inch alloy wheels, halogen headlights, keyless entry, a rear-view camera, and a suite of other conveniences that enhance everyday usability for drivers. The Onix has been available in Uzbekistan since late 2022, with pricing broadly ranging from 110 million to 165.2 million Uzbek sums, which translates to a wide market window and competitive positioning within the local automotive landscape.

Earlier communications indicated UzAuto had paused several models due to fluctuating demand, reflecting the company’s adaptive approach to market conditions and consumer interest. The current strategy appears to emphasize balancing production capacity with domestic demand, while exploring regional export opportunities and potential collaborations that align with broader economic objectives. This includes the ongoing evaluation of assembly practices and the integration of efficient manufacturing processes to support a steady supply chain for the Onix and related Chevrolet models.
