The BMW group has released details about the upcoming generation of the 5 Series, outlining design changes, technology upgrades, and powertrain options. Compared with the prior model, the new sedan grows by 97 mm in length, 32 mm in width, and 36 mm in height. The overall length reaches 5060 mm with a wheelbase of 2995 mm, signaling a roomier cabin and more balanced proportions. Inside, the cabin benefits from BMWs latest iDrive system, delivering streamlined media control and vehicle functions with a notable reduction in onboard buttons for a cleaner, more intuitive experience.

Under the hood, the lineup adopts 48-volt mild hybrid technology that uses a starter generator to assist the internal combustion engine and recover energy during operation. The base specification pairs with an 8-speed automatic transmission, ensuring smooth, efficient shifts across driving scenarios.

In Europe, the 520i will feature a 208 horsepower gasoline engine, while the 520d carries a 197 horsepower diesel. Both configurations will be offered in rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive formats. A 6-cylinder diesel option and plug-in hybrid variants were expected to join the range by spring 2024. Beyond Europe, the 5 Series will offer configurations with both 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder engines to broaden market coverage.

The range-topper is the electric i5 M60 xDrive, rated at 601 hp and equipped with all-wheel drive. Its electronic assistance systems have been expanded, and Driving Assistant Professional is available for the new sedan, featuring adaptive cruise control with stops and starts as well as steering and lane-keeping support to enhance long-distance comfort and safety.

There have been reports surrounding Sollers and its potential collaboration with UAZ to establish a multi-brand assembly for Chinese vehicles, indicating ongoing discussions about new manufacturing partnerships in the region.
