A young man in his early to mid thirties is portrayed as climbing a solid career ladder. He is not impoverished, nor is he married yet. He tends to favor a premium suit and a tie, perhaps dictated by office dress standards. His character reads as dependable, and the mood is energetic and sporty. In the past, his dream cars might have included a BMW 5 Series in M-Technik styling or a Mercedes-Benz coupe. For those who have not encountered such profiles, Moscow City offers a vivid example where this archetype seems most common.

What can the Russian market offer today for a budget in the 5 to 5.5 million rubles range? A brand new car would be ideal, yet a low-mileage pre-owned vehicle is also a viable option. The market is examined with this budget in mind.

BMW

A brand new BMW M5 would not fit this budget. Yet with 5.5 million rubles, a buyer could consider a 2018 M5 F90 with roughly 50,000 kilometers, or a 2021 BMW 5 Series with a 249 horsepower engine and xDrive all wheel drive. Some configurations may include the M Performance body kit and additional M package elements.

However, the mileage on such cars is typically between 20,000 and 52,000 kilometers, which is substantial for a car that is only a couple of years old. The M5 presents itself as a refined sedan that conceals its high performance well, yet new production remains out of reach for this budget.

Within the same budget, larger high performance crossovers like the X5 M and X6 M appear older and carry higher mileage. A Vladivostok dealer offers a 2022 BMW X3 M with only 4,000 kilometers for 5,300,000 rubles, though it is a vehicle from a Japanese auction with right-hand drive. Another option is a 2022 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe with 2,900 kilometers driven, dressed in the M Special package with a 306 horsepower engine and four-wheel drive, delivering a sub five second zero-to-100 kilometers per hour sprint and a striking appearance.

Mercedes-Benz

The AMG line does not offer great value here. The E-Class in this price range is similar in age and mileage to the BMW 5 Series. The AMG C-Class reaches its best in 2019, with around 12,000 kilometers on the clock.

At the 5 to 5.5 million rubles level, a simple E-Class in a coupe body with all-wheel drive is possible. The engine is a 2.0-liter gasoline unit with about 197 horsepower, which may feel insufficient for a car of this class. Yet tax considerations can offset operating costs for those who pay attention.

Another possibility exists in Moscow, where a 2021 C-Class with just 12,000 kilometers, recently imported, is available as a convertible. It carries a diesel engine rated at 194 horsepower and a red exterior, which might appeal to a specific buyer profile.

For crossovers, the market in this tier offers the GLC Coupe from 2020 onward, available in diesel or gasoline variants.

Audi

Audi models with a sporty character are typically S and RS lines. With a budget above five million rubles, buyers can find an S4 with very low mileage or an S6 powered by a 3-liter V6 delivering 349 horsepower with all-wheel drive and around 30,000 kilometers on the clock.

For enthusiasts who prefer compact and brisk vehicles, a 400 horsepower RS3 can be imagined in sedan or hatchback form with mileage around 11,000 to 18,000 kilometers. It is also possible to consider an RS5 coupe with a 450 horsepower engine, though model years top out around 2017 or 2018. An attractive option is the 2021 Audi A5 coupe, featuring a 249 horsepower engine and quattro all-wheel drive with about 10,900 kilometers. It is noted that this car may require travel to the northern capital for acquisition, a journey that can be viewed as a bonus for those who relish stepping behind the wheel on the M-11 highway.

Porsche

To impress at a glance, a Porsche can be within reach. For 5.5 million rubles there are possibilities including a 2019 Macan or Macan S, a 2018 Cayenne, a 2019 Cayman, or even a 2019 Boxster convertible.

Other options

The modern Russian market is notably diverse, often rivaling the pre-2022 landscape. With a 5.5 million budget, genuine American muscle cars such as the 2019–2021 Dodge Challenger and Charger with modest mileage are viable options. They are praised for their style, sound, and performance, with horsepower figures around 492. On request, deliveries can be arranged, including vehicles like the Ford Bronco with five doors, a symbol of individualism rather than conformity. Although Bronco may lack the classic sports sedan vibe, it stands out as an unmistakable and charismatic choice compared with more common brands.

Similarly, Ford Mustangs are widely available in 2019–2021 variants, including limited editions such as Bullitt, commemorating the 50th anniversary of a famous film starring Steve McQueen. Some examples even arrive in good condition from 1972 with similar pricing. In the market, the Jaguar F-Type 2022 convertible sits alongside the E-Type 2018 as compelling options. For single buyers, Jeep Wrangler and a Gladiator pickup offer rugged appeal.

Among practical choices, all-wheel drive liftbacks like the Kia Stinger are considered; a 5,200,000 ruble example offers a 370 horsepower engine with roughly 4,000 kilometers on the odometer. The Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler, along with Land Rover Defender, remain viable 2022 SUV picks in this price range. The Defender, while perhaps unexpected for a young professional in a suit, demonstrates the variety of lifestyle choices now available.

For a more exotic touch, the rear-wheel drive Lexus RC F 2020 with a 474 horsepower engine is available, shipped from South Korea to Vladivostok within three weeks, with the price including customs clearance. Maserati Levante models from 2018 to 2020 in petrol or diesel variants also appear on the market.

Tesla options include Model Y, Model X with falcon doors, Model S, and Model 3 from 2021. While American EVs are just becoming mainstream in the market, they are steadily increasing in visibility. In Russia the ID.4 Crozz and ID.6 Crozz from Volkswagen have recently become purchasable in electric crossovers.

The Voyah Free premium electric crossover makes a striking impression, and a hybrid Voyah is presented as a notable option. This hybrid family offers a combined powertrain output around 694 horsepower and torque near 1000 Nm, with acceleration to 100 km/h in about 4.6 seconds. The design hails from ItalDesign Giugiaro. The vehicle is a 2021 model with roughly 1000 kilometers on the clock, yet its impact has the potential to turn heads, especially for buyers seeking a premium stays-in-mind option.

Expert opinion on Voyah Free

Maxim Kadakov, editor in chief of Za Rulem, notes a moment of surprise when the design of a Chinese electric car resonates more with him than many European counterparts. He suggests that if Voyah Free production advances, it could become a compelling, expensive choice in the premium segment. He highlights the design by ItalDesign, the nearly five-meter scale, a modular platform, air suspension on top models, dual electric motors delivering all-wheel drive, and an approximate 500-kilometer NEDC range. The battery capacity stands near 100 kWh. A hybrid version combining electric and a 1.5-liter turbo gasoline engine is also offered, with a claimed range approaching 860 kilometers. The interior and material quality receive particular praise, plus innovative solutions like a dual-display front panel.

Additionally, it is clear that the market now offers a wide variety of options that surpass the pre-2022 lineup. When buying a car, it is essential to consider how it will be used, where it will be serviced, and by whom. Trusted brands tend to excel in these areas.
