On August 1, the ERA-GLONASS safety system was reintroduced to the 2022 model year Lada Granta and Niva Legend lines after a temporary pause caused by a component shortage. In the current rollout, the system is functioning primarily in manual mode. If a traffic incident occurs, the vehicle owner can summon help by pressing a button in the ceiling unit. At this stage, the automatic emergency response feature is not yet active, and the system requires a deliberate user action to initiate contact with the dispatch service. This staged return prioritizes reliability while the manufacturer completes the final integration steps needed for full autonomous triggering.
Calls are transmitted via mobile channels, and the process remains effective even when the vehicle’s main power is switched off. This capability ensures that emergency assistance can be reached in a wider set of circumstances, improving outcomes in the critical moments following a collision. AvtoVAZ stresses that the safety of drivers and passengers is paramount, and the company has moved to reinstate the ERA-GLONASS functionality as quickly as possible while maintaining rigorous safety standards.
Dmitry Kostromin, the vice president of sales and marketing at JSC AVTOVAZ, underscored that features which were temporarily unavailable are being gradually restored in the company’s vehicles. He explained that the team is actively working to reintroduce these functions to existing models and to new releases, with the goal of delivering enhanced safety tools to customers as soon as practicable. Kostromin emphasized the ongoing commitment to progress and the careful steps being taken to ensure that each system update meets the high standards expected by drivers and regulatory bodies alike.
