AvtoVAZ Lada Largus Bodies Move to Izhevsk for Testing and Production Transition

The early batches of Lada Largus station wagon bodies have arrived at the AvtoVAZ manufacturing site in Izhevsk. Company representatives confirmed the news in a post on the community page “At the Izhevsk factory” in the social network VKontakte, underscoring a move that aligns with broader production optimization efforts.

These bodies are earmarked for testing and debugging of manufacturing processes, including dyeing workflows where the paint lines and related equipment will be examined under real conditions. The plan envisions more than 30 Largus bodies being produced specifically for the plant in Togliatti, featuring a range of coating options from solid black finishes to bodies treated with a cataphoretic primer for corrosion resistance. AvtoVAZ also noted that, in the near term, welded and assembled Largus bodies will be delivered to Izhevsk to support ongoing trials and validation activities across the production chain.

In mid-August, AvtoVAZ announced the conclusion of Lada Largus production in Tolyatti, signaling a strategic shift in the company’s manufacturing footprint. By September, equipment transfers to the Izhevsk facility were set to commence, with the goal of launching Largus production there in 2024. This relocation forms part of a broader plan to scale the updated Lada Vesta’s output at the primary plant in Togliatti, ensuring that capacity and modernization efforts are balanced across key sites in Russia’s automotive network.

A former AvtoVAZ artist has also introduced the design concept for the “New Volga,” reflecting ongoing creative exploration within the company’s design studios as it navigates market demands and brand evolution while maintaining a strong engineering backbone within the production ecosystem.
