UAZ plans to advance the restyling of its Patriot SUV, a model in production since 2005. The information comes from the press service of Sollers, the company that owns the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant, which is a key partner in the modernization program for the UAZ lineup.

Sollers disclosed the restyling project for the UAZ Patriot during the inauguration of the Sollers Product Development Center located at the Idea Technopark in Kazan. The facility is positioned as a hub for vehicle development, engineering support, and the modernization of existing models. The center will drive the Sollers range forward, providing technical expertise for localization efforts and delivering new technological solutions. This includes advances in electromobility and the broader push toward electrified propulsion where feasible for light commercial and passenger vehicles in the catalog.

Beyond the Patriot restyling, Sollers engineers are working on the Atlant, a commercial model that features all-wheel drive. The team is integrating and localizing a diesel engine paired with a six-speed manual transmission into UAZ platforms, expanding the powertrain options and reinforcing the company’s localization program. Alongside powertrain work, there is a focus on implementing new passive safety systems, improving occupant protection, and updating occupant safety features to align with current regulatory and safety standards in Russia and neighboring markets.

The Patriot last underwent a major styling refresh in 2016 at the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant. That update brought notable visual changes, including a redesigned grille, an updated dash, and a revised gear lever. Other internal improvements included an adjustable steering column and several refinements to the cabin and controls designed to improve ergonomics and overall user experience for drivers and passengers alike.

Industry observers note that the ongoing collaboration between UAZ and Sollers aims to bolster domestic manufacturing capabilities while expanding the Patriot’s appeal through modernized design cues, enhanced safety features, and new technology platforms. This approach aligns with broader industry trends toward localization, efficiency, and expanded aftersales support that helps brands meet evolving customer expectations in Russia and regional markets.

Speculation about a turbo-diesel option for the Patriot and the potential introduction of an automatic transmission has circulated in automotive circles. Industry communications and statements from Sollers suggest a deliberate strategy to broaden the powertrain lineup while maintaining the Patriot’s core value proposition as a rugged, versatile SUV suitable for various driving conditions and road surfaces. Analysts and enthusiasts will be watching closely to see how these developments unfold in the coming model years, including any updates to cabin technology, infotainment systems, and driver-assistance features installed in the Patriot family.
