Avtotor, the Kaliningrad-based company, has long drawn curiosity with the idea of creating its own car, yet concrete details have remained scarce. Early speculation suggested the project might build on a modification of a Chinese base, but recent leaks have introduced new uncertainties about that assumption.

A batch of images from a factory presentation of the rumored model appeared on the Amber DLB Telegram channel, accompanied by commentary about the development process.

The accompanying notes described a scenario in which a local colleague reported that an electric vehicle designed for younger buyers was being developed with considerable momentum. The text mentioned that young workers had been assembled to preview what had already been created, and there was even talk of inviting ideas for the vehicle’s name. The provisional working title mentioned was Yantar, with a note that other naming possibilities were being considered, though some attendees suggested that the name might reflect local cultural preferences. The discussion implied a connection to Kaliningrad sensibilities and naming conventions tied to the region.

Visuals from the presentation depicted a compact electric city car, offered in several design variants. According to the presentation, the vehicle’s body weight stood at 106 kg, and there was a claim that the materials used would be 79% recyclable. The cost structure highlighted that the traction battery accounted for roughly 37% of the vehicle’s price, while the body contributed about 21% of the total cost.

The presentation asserted that the vehicle had been developed using a Russian component base, suggesting a degree of domestic origin for the project. At the time of writing, there has been no official statement from Avtotor regarding the project.

Context

The term kei car refers to a category first introduced in Japan to address urban congestion and rapid growth in vehicle numbers. Kei cars are characterized by compact overall dimensions as well as restrictions on engine displacement and power, designed to maximize efficiency and ease of use in crowded city environments.

All references to this project stem from the Amber DLB channel in Kaliningrad, with visuals and commentary that have circulated widely among enthusiasts and industry observers. The depictions and notes remain speculative until an official announcement clarifies the scope and specifications of the concept.
