Avtotor Starts JMC Production in Kaliningrad, Expanding Local Assembly
The Kaliningrad Avtotor plant has begun producing three models from the Chinese automaker Jiangling Motors Corporation, commonly known as JMC. This update comes from representatives of the facility cited by the news agency RIA Novosti.
The lines are now turning out commercial cargo vans and the Vigus pickup, both part of JMC’s lineup. The first truck family weighs in at 3.5 to 5 tons and runs with a turbocharged diesel engine rated at 109 horsepower. The Conquer line, a heavier model at 9.4 tons, is equipped with a turbocharged engine that delivers 156 horsepower and meets the fourth environmental class. The pickup under the JMC umbrella uses a diesel turbo engine that produces 128 horsepower.
Avtotor noted that the plan calls for a gradual shift to a full production cycle that covers welding, painting, and final assembly. This approach will scale up to meet a target production volume while ensuring a steady flow of finished vehicles. In Russia, more than 25 JMC dealerships are already in operation, reflecting a growing presence of the brand across the country. Jiangling Motors Corporation traces its origins to 1993 and is widely recognized for its collaborations in China, including partnerships that helped popularize Ford and Isuzu products in the market.
The announcement comes amid broader discussions in Russia about vehicle price movements, including the notable rise in prices observed since last year, a trend that continues to affect consumer choices and market dynamics.
