In April, Russian car dealers reported solid growth, with a total of 75.6 thousand new cars sold, reflecting a 2.7-fold year-over-year increase. This snapshot comes from Avtostat, referencing Passport Industrial Consulting data.

The market leader for the month was Lada, capturing more than a third of all sales with a share exceeding 33 percent. About 25.3 thousand new domestic cars were sold in April, underscoring Lada’s dominance. Following the domestic champion were three Chinese brands: Chery moved 9.3 thousand units, Geely 7.1 thousand, and Haval 6.8 thousand. Rounding out the top five was Kia with 3.4 thousand units. Completing the top ten were Hyundai, Toyota, Omoda, and Changan. For almost every brand in the ranking, sales grew, with Hyundai as a notable exception.

In the model rankings, the best sellers for April included Lada Granta, Geely Coolray, Lada Niva Travel, Haval Jolion, and Chery Tiggo 4 Pro. The next tier featured Lada Niva Legend, Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max, Omoda C5, Haval F7x, and Geely Tugella. The standout model gain came from Geely Coolray, which surged more than sixteenfold, while several other models saw growth ranging from fourfold to ninefold.

The agency highlighted that over the first four months of the year, roughly 247,000 new cars were sold in Russia, marking a drop of about 15.4 percent compared with the same period in the previous year. This suggests a slower pace in the broader market despite the strong April showing. [Source: Avtostat, based on Passport Industrial Consulting figures]

Earlier reporting from AvtoVAZ detailed April 2023 sales, providing additional context for the evolving market landscape. The latest data continue to illustrate a shifting balance among domestic brands and competing imports, with consumer demand translating into notable but uneven growth across segments.
