During a traffic collision or accident, a stressed driver can quickly calm down if he puts his emotions aside and does a few exercises from body-focused therapy. Psychologist Armena Arakelova, a member of the Professional Psychotherapeutic Association of the Russian Federation, told this to the correspondent of socialbites.ca.

“Any dangerous event on the road occurs unexpectedly, so such situations are accompanied by stress and great fear. While in this state, people are particularly susceptible to primary responses such as “fight” and “flight,” as well as aggression and fear. The level of stress in society as a whole is now unusual, and therefore even minor irritants can lead to disproportionate reactions, let alone accidents,” noted the psychologist.

In his opinion, there is no point in getting emotionally involved if another person involved in the accident is behaving inappropriately. The expert explained that at the time of a traffic conflict, a person’s aggressive reaction is not directed specifically at the other driver, but at the situation as a whole. According to Arakelova, this is an important point because many drivers take insults personally.

“If you listen to your body, you can cope with stress in such a situation. The driver is advised to take several deep abdominal breaths and exhale slowly. It is also important to stop at that moment, literally feeling the ground under your feet. Then you must understand that there is no threat to life here and now. “This awareness will help you get out of a state of fear and calm down,” he advised.
