Russia took ownership of Nissan factory

“At the end of 2022, St. Petersburg came to us in 2023. As far as you know now, we returned St. Petersburg to the state. It has now become an independent factory unit,” said Kostromin.

It was noted that the facility returned to the ownership of NAMI, the state automobile and motor vehicle institute affiliated with the Ministry of Industry and Trade. NAMI purchased the plant from Nissan in 2022 at a symbolic price with a 6-year buyback option.

St. The Nissan factory in St. Petersburg opened its doors in June 2009. X-Trail, Murano, Qashqai and Terrano crossovers came off the production line of the enterprise. The production capacity of the facility was 100 thousand cars per year. A foreign company sold this asset in the fall of 2022.

In the summer of 2023, St. Production of Lada X-Cross 5 cars (Chinese FAW Bestune T77 with a different nameplate) was started at the former Nissan plant in St. Petersburg. In December, information about the Lada X-Cross 5 crossover disappeared from the official AvtoVAZ website.

Later a source at AvtoVAZ saidThey will not continue the assembly of such cars due to the closure of the project, since FAW closed the issue of cooperation with AvtoVAZ. Of the 170 assembled crossovers, 50 were sold in Moscow, 120 cars were transported to Tolyatti. 60 copies were fitted with winter tires and will be used as official transport for VAZ management.
