A 1962 Ferrari 330 LM/250 GTO was sold for a record price of $51.7 million (₽4.7 billion) at an auction held at RM Sotheby’s in New York. reports Bloomberg.
The Scaglietti-bodied car became the most expensive Ferrari ever sold at auction and the most expensive classic car sold in the world in 2023. The car was owned by Ohio collector Jim Jaeger for nearly 40 years. The auction house did not disclose the buyer of the car.
Despite the record, the price of the car was below expectations. Before the auction, RM Sotheby’s estimated the car would fetch about $60 million.
The car was built for the Ferrari racing team and competed in the Nürburgring 1000 km and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It was equipped with a V12 engine with 400 hp, later the engine was changed to a V12 3.0 with 310 hp.
