In the first quarter of 2025, the Russian oil and gas industry gained significant increase in the number of “refusal to continue” (DDOs). According to experts of solar company companies, the industry organization in the first three months of the year created the 10.7 thousand DDOS attack. This was reported as “Gazeta.ru” in the press service of the “Solar” company.
Between January and 2025, the analysis of data collected by the anti-DDOS service of the Solar MSS platform showed that a company from the oil and gas industry constitutes 27 attacks. This is 67% higher than the same period of 2024 and 60% higher than the fourth quarter of 2024. This increase has led the sector to enter the top 5 of the most attacking industries for the first time.
According to experts, the first wave of attacks on the oil and gas sector in January 2025 can be associated with the adoption of a new sanction package against the Russian oil and gas sector from the USA. Only in the first month of the year, every anti -DDOS service client in this sector collided with an average of 37 attacks 9 times higher than January 2024. Despite the average number of coups decreased in February, it grew again in March and returned the industry to the number of cyber leaders.
In addition to the oil and gas industry, there were other industries under active DDOS attacks in the first quarter of 2025. The leader in the average number of attacks on the organization was the public sector that made up a total of 15.5 thousand attacks. The second in the total number of attacks was taken by the telecommunications sector with 18.8 thousand beats. Credit and financial institutions, despite a decrease in operation compared to the previous quarter of 2024, remained a target by correcting the 18.7 thousand attacks. In the first quarter, it is noteworthy that 82% of the DDOS attacks in the financial sector fell in March immediately after the negotiations of the United States and Ukraine in Saudi Arabia. IT companies faced a 6.7 thousand DDO attack.
Among the Russian regions, Moscow remained the leader for an average number of attacks for an organization where the total number of DDOS exceeded 60,000. Between the federal regions, the total number of attacks in North-West (17 thousand), Volga (14 thousand) and Siberia (13 thousand) appeared. The Ural Federal region recorded 12 thousand attacks, Central – 8 thousand and south – 7 thousand.
