According to this advanced technology corresponding to the 1.4 nanometer (NM) level, chipset production will start in 2028 and are planned to be Apple’s first buyer. Future generations of apple silicone processors of the chips made according to the A14 process are expected to be used. Compared to the existing 2-NM TSMC (N2) process, A14 technology promises a significant improvement in properties: the same energy consumption level or the same productivity while the performance increases up to 15% in energy consumption.
The company also reported the development of the standard architecture of TSMC Nanoflex cells to the Nanoflex Pro version, which should provide more performance, energy efficiency and flexibility of the design of the chips.
Considering the close partnership between the company and Apple, which of the first TSMC customers, who reached the new 1.4-nm chips, is not officially announced, Macrumors suggests that it will be among the first customers for this advanced technology.
For comparison, advanced levels in the 2-NM Industry TSMC process (N2) are expected to reach the mass production phase later this year. At the same time, according to analysts, Apple will probably start using 2 nm technology in the A20 chip for the iPhone 18 series before 2026. Thus, chips at the best output on the A14 iPhone 20.
The existing models of iPhone 17 and Future M5 chips for Mac and iPad are expected to continue to use the 3-NM process, the third generation of the N3P node. Experts are currently associating such a solution for the 2-NM process with high cost and limited production facilities.
