Huawei continues to strengthen its position in the dynamic market folding smartphones in China and shows impressive growth and domination on competitors. According to the IDC analytical company, in the fourth quarter of 2024, the Chinese giant realized more than 2.5 million of these devices in their own market and occupied 48.6% of the segment. However, the real scale of Huawei’s success showed itself in the first quarter of 2025. During this period, the company sent more than 2.8 million folding devices, and as a result, the market share increased to 76.6%. This leap reflects the annual increase of Huawei materials by 53.1%, which is impressive against the total decrease of sales in the folding telephone market, which is 9.5% annually in the fourth quarter of 2024.
Huawei growth occurs due to reducing the shares of other manufacturers. The most notable decline was shown by Honor, which decreased from 20.6% to 9.1% in the first quarter of 2025 in the fourth quarter of 2024.
According to the results of the first quarter, Oppo rose to the third line of the degree, which was able to increase its share from 5.3% to 7.1%. Previously, the third was occupied by Vivo, who did not even enter the IDC report in the first quarter of 2025. A significant decrease in Xiaomi has been recorded – at the end of 2024, from 7.4% to 2.6% at the beginning of 2025.
The possible reason for weakening the positions of competitors is a less active update of the model range. Although Xiaomi and Vivo are not introduced to new smartphones with flexible screens, Huawei actively represents innovative products. Last year, the company released Mate X6, Pocket 2 and Nova Flip models as well as Mate XT Ultimate. This year, the portfolio was already filled with an unusual Puraa X line, which helps to maintain leadership and more growth, according to analysts.
