Owners of Apple devices in Russia began to encounter problems in determining their location. Especially with problems like this collided and readers of the iPhones.ru resource. The issue affects iPhones and iPads with a cellular module, as well as iPads and Mac computers without a built-in cellular module.
The problem manifests itself in different ways. In one case, the iPhone can show a location 50-100 km from the user’s current location, in the other, the Mac cannot determine the geolocation in principle and gives an error. A similar scenario is possible in various applications, including system applications. At the same time, determining the date and time by geolocation on iOS and macOS works without errors.
The issue does not appear to be device or OS version specific. According to iPhones.ru, users started complaining about GPS problems in the Russian Federation in May 2024, when iOS 17.5 was up to date. GPS-related complaints also appeared after the release of later versions of the operating system.
The publication believes that in the case of Russia, the error in determining geolocation may be associated with GPS malfunctions observed in large cities such as Moscow, Yaroslavl, Voronezh and more.
