Telegram founder Pavel Durov announced the appearance of a bot @SearchReport in the messenger, through which users can complain about unsafe and illegal content in search results. However, this service is not working, as learned by socialbites.ca correspondent in Russia.
When you open a bot from Russia with the VPN turned off, the bot responds to the /start command with a message in Russian that the service is not available in the user’s region. Notably, the bot’s response is “not yet available.” So SearchReport will probably start accepting complaints from Russians sooner rather than later.
When using VPN, the bot’s functionality returns to normal. It offers to send the text of the search query that the user entered and receives results with dangerous or illegal content in response. For example, the bot gives the request “buy medicine”.
Pavel Durov announced the launch of the SearchReport bot on September 23, 2024. According to the Telegram founder, this measure, along with other measures, will deter criminals from using the messenger.
