The social network Odnoklassniki announced the start of cooperation between the volunteer search and rescue team “LizaAlert” and the Altsrus foundation, which helps people with dementia and their families. The press service of the social network socialbites.ca reported on this.
The theme of the first project will be dementia. Odnoklassniki users will be able to learn more about it, as well as ask questions to experts.
The launch of the project coincides with World Dementia Awareness Month in September. For OK, LisaAlert and Altsrus, this is an opportunity not only to talk about the condition, but also to prevent older people from disappearing.
In the groups “LizaAlert” and “OK Social Projects” useful posts will appear, for example, about how to recognize dementia.
Live broadcast will take place in the “LizaAlert” group on September 26. Speakers will be Tatyana Alexandrova, coordinator of the LisaAlert team, and Alexandra Shchetkina, president of the Altsrus foundation.
Since the beginning of 2024, LisaAlert has received more than 8,000 applications for searches for older people, a third of which were related to dementia. According to Alzrus, one in 10 people over the age of 60 suffers from dementia and it can go unnoticed at first. According to statistics, Alzheimer’s disease is the cause of dementia in two-thirds of cases in older people.
