Iran attempted to interfere in the US presidential election through cyber operations targeting the campaigns of Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, TASS reported, citing a joint statement by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the US Infrastructure and Cybersecurity Agency.
U.S. intelligence agencies have noted increasing “aggressive Iranian activity” during the current election cycle, including, among other things, operations to influence American society and cyber operations targeting presidential campaigns. Iran, in particular, recently attempted to compromise Trump’s campaign.
Intelligence agencies say Tehran used social engineering and other techniques to gain access to people directly involved in the Democratic and Republican presidential campaigns. “In this way, Iran sought to influence the electoral process in the United States.
