In the latest preview build of Windows 11, Microsoft announced that it has increased the size limit of a FAT32 partition created from 32GB to 2TB. This change will allow users to format drives using the standard format command in the command line without using third-party utilities. This limitation has existed in Windows for over 30 years, starting with the earliest versions of the operating system. In this article reports WinFuture edition.
Previously, despite the artificial limit of 32GB, Windows systems retained the ability to read larger partitions with the FAT32 file system, provided they were created on other operating systems or using alternative methods. Now, all Windows 11 users will be able to create FAT32 partitions up to 2TB without the need for additional tools.
Additionally, the current build in the Canary channel has released an updated test version of the Windows Sandbox Client, which introduces new features and improvements, including folder sharing and command-line support. Additionally, in build number 27686, we optimized battery performance and fixed a bug where the battery charge level was displayed incorrectly on the lock screen.
Microsoft also announced the launch of background tests to send diagnostic data that will help the company improve network performance. The amount of data sent will not exceed 10MB per day and will be sent only over Ethernet and Wi-Fi connections without any traffic restrictions.
