The communication service of the Russian Football Union (RFU) reported that the matches of the Russian national team against Vietnam and Thailand will be taken into account in the FIFA rankings. Their words are leading “Sports Express”.
“Both matches will count towards FIFA rankings,” the RFU said.
The matches will be played at My Dinh Stadium in Hanoi, Vietnam. Valery Karpin’s team will play against Vietnam on September 5 and Thailand in the seventh. The matches will start at 16:00 Moscow time.
The Russian national team could not qualify for the 2024 European Championship, as since 2022 the national team and Russian clubs have been suspended from tournaments held under the auspices of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA). The team had previously also missed the 2022 World Cup.
The Russian national team has won the last three friendly matches, beating Cuba (8:0), Serbia (4:0) and Belarus (4:0) without conceding a goal. In July 2024, reports emerged that the Russian side was negotiating with Zambia to host a friendly match, but on July 10, the Russian Football Union denied reports that an agreement had been reached regarding the game.
