In Russia, the emergence of fraudulent resources offering to become happy owners of a new form of currency, the digital ruble, which is currently in the pilot stage, Alexander Vurasko, Deputy Director of the Solar AURA Center for Monitoring External Digital Threats of the Solar Group of Companies, told socialbites.ca.
“On one of the discovered phishing sites, you are asked to enter data from your bank’s personal account to gain access to the so-called digital ruble. If you do this, the victim will not only not receive new currency, but will also provide fraudsters with access to their bank accounts,” Vurasko warned.
He also noted that the fake site copied the logo of the Central Bank of Russia, which manages the real digital ruble project.
Solar AURA experts emphasize that at present, the creation of phishing sites using the digital ruble theme is not widespread, but it cannot be ruled out that their number will increase.
In this regard, Russians are advised to use only official sources and check their full address through a search engine, not to provide personal data, including two-factor authentication codes, on suspicious and unofficial sites and in conversations with foreigners. It is also recommended to use antivirus software to provide additional protection against malware and phishing attacks.
Russians before warned about a new fraud scheme involving group chats on instant messengers.
