Blogger and enthusiast Igor Vallossek conducted his own research to determine the cause of overheating in Nvidia RTX 40XX series graphics cards. As a result, he clarifiedIt turns out that many video card manufacturers use cheap thermal pastes that can only work properly for a few months.
To test a custom setup, Vallossek purchased a Manli GeForce RTX 4080 Gallardo graphics card with 16GB of RAM and found that the thermal paste has high thermal conductivity when installed correctly. At the same time, its effectiveness decreases sharply with increasing layer thickness. He also noticed that the paste dries quickly (after a few months), which reduces its ability to dissipate heat. This is due to the use of large particles of aluminum oxide in the paste composition.
Vallossek does not rule out that many other video card manufacturers use cheap materials that lead to similar problems. The expert warns that replacing thermal paste can improve the cooling system, but removing the radiator yourself often voids the device’s warranty.
Former blogger compared Two graphics cards from Nvidia and AMD with 8 and 12 GB for gaming at 1440p.
