Although Apple hasn’t officially announced it, iOS 17.4 appears to have unlocked support for the Qi2 wireless charging standard on the iPhone 12. reports The Macworld publication is based on its own data obtained after a series of tests conducted by editors and readers of the resource.
Qi2 is the next generation of Qi wireless charging with improved efficiency and magnetic alignment inspired by Apple MagSafe technology. The maximum power of Qi is 7.5 W, while in Qi2 this is twice as high.
Testing by Macworld and publication readers showed that the iPhone 12 Pro Max charged up to 50% in 64 minutes with Qi2 charging. When using standard MagSafe with the original Qi standard, it takes 70 minutes to charge the battery to half.
Journalists also managed to learn that accessory manufacturer Belkin included the iPhone 12 in the list of models that support the Qi2 standard. This is evidenced by the fact that chargers of this brand begin to activate the Qi2 indicator when connecting the iPhone 12.
