Well-known blogger Zach Nelson, who goes by the pseudonym JerryRigEverything, tested the Tesla Cybertruck electric pickup for its resistance to bullets of various calibers. Experiment results It was published on YouTube channel.
Nelson, known for his durability tests on various devices, decided to check how bulletproof the Cybertruck, which Tesla founder Elon Musk introduced in November 2019, is. Later, Tesla’s president said that the futuristic pickup truck’s body was made of super-hard stainless steel and could withstand 9mm caliber bullets.
Nelson used several firearms to test this claim, starting with a Glock 19 (9 mm) pistol. He fired at the door of the Cybertruck from a distance of about 10 meters and found that the bullets did not enter the body, leaving only dents.
The blogger then switched to smaller 0.22 caliber (5.6 mm) bullets, which could not penetrate the door and did less damage than 9 mm bullets. However, the next caliber, 17 HMR, proved to be too powerful for the Cybertruck. The bullet, traveling at a speed of 762 meters per second, pierced the door but could not pass through.
Eventually, Nelson acquired an AR-15 with a .223 Rem bullet (5.56 mm, 975 m/s) and a high-powered rifle (50 caliber, 883 m/s). Both of these bullets easily penetrated the Cybertruck’s door, leaving large holes.
From these tests, Nelson concluded that Musk wasn’t lying when he said the Cybertruck was bulletproof to at least 9mm and below. However, he also emphasized that this only applies to the pickup body and not to its windows, which cannot withstand the impact of a metal ball, as shown in the presentation.
