Canadian pop star Taylor Swift has threatened to sue American student Jack Sweeney for publishing flight data of his private jet along with other celebrities’ business jets. This was reported by newspaper Washington Post (TWP).
According to the publication, Swift’s lawyer sent a letter to Sweeney in December demanding that he stop the illegal actions. The message stated that the young man’s accounts on social networks caused the pop diva “direct and irreparable harm, as well as emotional and physical pain.” It was also stated that Jack Sweeney would have to take legal action if he did not stop “harassing” the artist.
Sweeney’s Flight shame project publishes open data on social networks about the movements of private flights of celebrities, made publicly available by the US Federal Aviation Administration. However, the accounts also publish estimates of the fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions of these flights.
In 2022, Flight shame created a ranking of celebrities with the largest carbon footprint due to flying, and Taylor Swift came first in this ranking. Following this publication, American billionaire Elon Musk promised to sue Jack Sweeney and deleted his account from the social network X (formerly Twitter).
Elon Musk stated that Sweeney allegedly “transferred his coordinates to the killers”.
