“Tesla AI Day has been moved to September 30, as we may have the Optimus prototype by then,” Musk said.

After first announcing the project last year, Musk promised that Tesla would have a working prototype by the end of 2022. Recently, the billionaire also stated that the company plans to start robot production in 2023. Musk has repeatedly stated that the robot is now a priority product in the company.

Musk said the robot will first be programmed to perform simple and repetitive tasks, including manufacturing. Tesla plans to evolve the robot over time so it can perform a wider range of tasks, making it useful for both commercial and consumer markets.
