US company Seagate has agreed to pay a $300 million fine by the US Department of Commerce for supplying more than $1.1 billion of hard drives to Huawei in violation of sanctions. It has been reported Border.
It was noted that Seagate shipped 7.4 million hard drives to Huawei between August 2020 and September 2021 without obtaining an export license. Since August 2020, a rule has been introduced for US companies restricting sales to companies from China.
Under the terms, Seagate will pay the fine in quarterly installments of $15 million over five years, beginning October 31, 2023.
Huawei was first blacklisted by US organizations in May 2019. Seagate continued to do business with Huawei, becoming the Chinese company’s sole hard drive supplier.
