“I remember our first personal conversations with Gates. Understanding of artificial intelligence was limited back then. And nothing has changed since then,” he said.
This is how Musk reacted to the information that Microsoft’s founder attended meetings with the OpenAI startup team, the developers of the chatbot ChatGPT.
According to official information, Gates has been meeting with the OpenAI team periodically since 2016. The billionaire claimed that the last meeting took place in September 2022. Officially, the businessman has not held any positions at Microsoft since 2020, but may attend the meeting as a freelance consultant for the company.
Musk founded OpenAI in 2015 with a $1 billion donation to the company. However, he left the OpenAI board in 2018 and has since been critical of the company, particularly its relationship with Microsoft. The Redmond-based company invested $1 billion in OpenAI in 2019.
It was previously reported that Musk Left OpenAI Not because of a conflict of interest regarding Tesla’s artificial intelligence developments, but because of an unsuccessful attempt to take full control of the venture.
