Google employees filed a petition asking CEO Sundar Pichai to be selective about planned staff cuts. In this respect informs Bloomberg edition.
The petition came in response to Google’s announcement of its intention to lay off about 12,000 people from the company. The appeal to Pichai was signed by approximately 1,400 employees.
Googlers want the CEO to approach the mitigation process selectively. In particular, fire people from countries with an active humanitarian crisis, such as Ukraine, who want to leave the company voluntarily and not touch their employees. Pichai was also asked to cut migrant workers last, who would lose their visas and have to leave the United States if they were fired.
“The implications of Alphabet’s (Google’s parent company) decision to lay off staff are global. Nowhere is the voices of workers duly taken into account, and we know that we are stronger as workers together than when we are alone.”
At the time of publication, Google did not comment on the workers’ call to Sundar Pichai.
