Indian authorities are considering requiring foreign smartphone manufacturers to comply with a set of new security rules to eliminate the possibility of spying. Portal reports MacRumors.
Therefore, Ministry of Information Technology of India intends to force vendors to allow removal of pre-installed apps. For example, Apple devices have several programs that cannot be removed – they can only be hidden. Also, all apps and new smartphones will need to be reviewed by the local regulator.
Thus, the authorities aim to reduce the risk of any abuse or even cybercrime by other states.
“Pre-installed apps can be a security bottleneck, and we want to make sure no country, including China, is abusing them. “This is a matter of national security,” the official, who asked not to be named, said.
