The owners of the Getty Images photobank sued Stability AI, the developers of the famous social network Stable Diffusion, which creates images at the request of users. In this respect informs Edition of The Verge.
Getty Images accuses Stability AI of “blatant intellectual property infringement on a mind-boggling scale”. Stability AI allegedly copied over 12 million images from a photobank without permission, which were then used to train Stable Diffusion.
“We can confirm that Getty Images filed a complaint against Stability AI with the U.S. District Court in Delaware on Friday,” Anne Flanagan, Getty Images vice president of communications, told The Verge.
Flanagan also noted that her employer has filed a similar case in the High Court in London.
Lawyers interviewed by The Verge believe it is very difficult to predict the court’s decision in this case. But they noted that the Getty Images lawsuit is technically more complete and controversial than similar lawsuits artists have filed against neural network developers before. Legal experts do not expect the Getty Images and Stability AI case to be resolved quickly.
