Engineer Ken Pillonel previously revealed that he has built a fully functional Lightning port with support for charging and data transfer into the Samsung Galaxy A51 smartphone. Now he shared the technical aspects of the work.

According to him, it was necessary to bypass Apple’s proprietary software for testing the Lightning connector, make a complex modification of a custom connector using 3D printing, and also solder everything together. The bottom line is that Lightning cables only charge Apple devices by default, so Pillonel had to find a way to “make the cable think it’s plugged into an Apple device.”

He also admitted that such a change in quality does not match industrial designs. However, this was just entertainment, and an attempt to find out if it is in principle possible to do this.
Note that earlier Pillonel modified the iPhone X by adding a functional USB-C port. He was able to sell it at auction for over $86k. Best cosplay of the week
