Russian President’s Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said the Kremlin had nothing to do with the attacks by KillNet hackers on Germany because of Berlin’s decision to supply Leopard tanks to Ukraine.
Previously recognizedHe said Russian-speaking KillNet hackers launched a “massive cyberattack” on Germany in retaliation for German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s decision to hand over Leopard tanks to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The attackers announced this on their Telegram channels.
Peskov emphasized that Moscow does not know what kind of group this is and they are sincerely surprised when any hacker group is associated with Russia. He wondered why no one associates such attacks with Europe, for example.
This is ridiculous. We look at where the vast majority of hacker attacks in the Russian Federation come from, specifically at sensitive organizations, including the president’s website. A lot of attacks are coming from the USA. Should all hacker groups be associated with the White House on this basis? A Kremlin spokesperson would probably have sounded ridiculous during a briefing.
January 24 newspaper Der Spiegel reportedGerman Chancellor Olaf Scholz decided to supply Ukraine with Leopard 2A6 tanks. We’re talking about 14 German main battle tanks. According to media reports, the United States intends to join Germany and one of these days may announce the transfer of a “significant number” of Abrams tanks to Kiev.
