The World Cup will pause football around the globe in an unusual way and leave a mark on the major leagues.
Qatar 2022 begins on November 20, 2022, but before that date arrives, the World Cup will interrupt games in the top leagues worldwide. The winter World Cup, brought on by extreme heat in the host nation during summer, will affect many leagues, including those known for their quality in Europe.

WHEN WILL THE MAIN EUROPEAN LEAGUES STOP?
The Ligue 1, Bundesliga, Premier League, and Serie A will all close their campaigns the weekend of November 12 and 13, just a week after the start of Qatar 2022. The competition pauses around November 9 for some leagues as the tournament kicks off.
WHEN WILL THE EUROPEAN LEAGUE CAMPAIGNS RESTART?
England appears eager to return, with a break of about 42 days timed for the traditional Boxing Day fixtures. Ligue 1 and La Liga will resume play on December 28 and 29 respectively.
The Bundesliga has the longest layoff, extending until January 20 when play resumes in Germany, even as the winter transfer window moves forward. Serie A remains silent for 53 days and comes back on Wednesday January 4.
Each of the five major leagues continues with its championships without changes to their formats.
