The Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk voiced criticism toward the press service of the US Open after officials posted the results of her match against Russian player Maria Timofeeva at the Australian Open and displayed the Russian flag on the event page.
“The Russian flag appeared on the official resource of one of the world’s largest tennis tournaments. I urge media representatives, officials, and the sports community to stop using the tennis court to promote the Russian world”, Kostyuk stated.
In their head-to-head encounter, Kostyuk defeated Timofeeva with scores of 6:2 and 6:1. The Ukrainian competitor advanced to the quarter-finals, where she was set to face Cori Gauff of the United States.
At Melbourne Park, only one Russian remained in the tournament: Anna Kalinskaya. She was scheduled to play against Yasmine Paolini of Italy.
In the latest WTA rankings, Noskova stood at 50th place. The rankings continued to be led by Poland’s Iga Swiatek, with Belarusian Arina Sabalenka moving to second place and Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan holding the third spot. The highest-ranked Russian woman remained Daria Kasatkina at 13th.
Earlier, Ukraine’s top-ranked player declined to continue the Australian Open match against Noskova.
