The Union of European Football Associations has ruled that the Ukrainian club Dnepr-1 will not take part in the Conference League qualifiers. The decision came from UEFA and was published on the federation’s official platforms.
According to UEFA communications, Dnepr-1 was handed two technical defeats against the Hungarian side Puskas Academy. The matches were originally slated for July 25 and August 1, and the outcomes have implications for the club’s standings in the competition.
Local Ukrainian media have reported that Dnepr-1 is facing severe financial difficulties and may be approaching bankruptcy. The Ukrainian Premier League has indicated that the club’s representatives chose to satisfy Dnepr-1’s request and withdraw the team from the current championship participants.
Football club Dnepr-1 was established in 2015 and began competing in the Ukrainian Premier League from the 2019/2020 season onward.
During its time in Ukrainian football, Dnepr-1 secured a notable achievement by finishing as runners-up in the Ukrainian Championship for the 2022/2023 season.
In the 2023/2024 Ukrainian Premier League campaign, Dnepr-1 concluded the season in fourth place, earning 49 points from 29 matches.
Transfermarkt estimates the club’s squad value at about €1.2 million, reflecting a modest financial footprint in comparison with larger European clubs.
Earlier reports indicated that there were discussions about Russia potentially being allowed to participate in international football events in the fall of 2024.
