Trusova’s pregnancy

Alexandra Trusova, a prominent local figure skater with a 2022 Olympic silver, a World Championship bronze, and multiple European Championship medals, is reported to be expecting a child. Sport-Express, citing its sources, states that Trusova is expecting.

Observers noted that in her latest appearances she did not land certain jumps, and for the final showing of Evgeni Plushenko’s production in Baku she was substituted by Alena Kostornaya.

Last August she married Makar Ignatov, a fellow Russian figure skating celebrity.

Initially, it was speculated that she would compete this season, especially since Russian skaters could compete in international events under a neutral status. Ignatov took part in test skates but did not compete in official events.

Earlier, reports suggested that the so‑called “Russian Rocket” might pause her competitive career, though a future return could not be ruled out, with several explanations offered though none could be confirmed.

“We do not go against the advice of doctors”

A representative quoted by Sport24 said they would not engage in gossip. Yana Rudkovskaya, wife and producer of Plushenko’s ice shows, stated that she could not confirm Trusova’s pregnancy and that personal matters should come from the skater herself. She added that she does not know such private details.

Rudkovskaya also noted that Trusova did not travel to Baku under a medical advisory rationale, and event organizers did not press for information in such cases. She stressed that if doctors advised against jumping, a show could not proceed because the lead performer cannot skate without jumps in front of the audience.

She repeated that she avoids gossip, and if there is joyful news, those involved will share it. She has heard rumors about pregnancy involving Kostornaya or Zagitova, later shown to be fiction, and she will not publish unverified information ahead of time, as explained by the co-owner of Plushenko’s Angels.

Esteemed USSR coach Tatyana Tarasova weighed in, saying that Trusova’s pregnancy does not concern her or the public. A young woman is pregnant, and there is nothing to discuss beyond offering good wishes. The matter should be treated with respect, and she would share her thoughts when they meet in person. It should be celebrated rather than debated, Tarasova observed. She noted that Trusova is an adult who makes her own choices.

Tarasova also commented on potential consequences for Trusova’s career, suggesting that childbirth could alter the trajectory, though she left room for a possible return if motivation and form permitted.

Natalya Bestemyanova, another renowned coach, offered a cautious view on Trusova’s prospects, not ruling out a possible comeback. She noted that Olympic qualification would have hinged on national championships, and with the Olympic race reshaped, Adelia Petrosyan could be the skater considered for future selection.

The coach underscored that the question of a future return remains open. Trusova is undeniably a powerful skater with a formidable quad set, but any comeback would require careful preparation and renewed drive. Bestemyanova did not rule out the possibility, simply emphasizing the need for readiness and motivation.

Do these developments spell the end of Trusova’s competitive journey? Not necessarily. She remains a strong athlete, and a future return would depend on her drive and the form she can regain. The path back would demand substantial work, but a comeback cannot be completely ruled out if she desires it.

olympic dream

Trusova, who finished second to Anna Shcherbakova at the 2022 Olympic Games after delivering five quadruple jumps in the free program and who did not participate in the team event by coaching staff decision, has repeatedly voiced a wish to compete at another Olympics. Yet as the 2026 selection approaches, with neutrally status possible for Russian skaters, it emerged that she would not be eligible to join the national team.

This season she did not enter any competition, and there is little indication she plans to compete in the near future. The Russian Figure Skating Federation had to compile its list of Olympic qualifiers by February 28, with the qualifying tournament scheduled to take place in China in September.
