The highly experienced third-place world-ranked goalkeeper in youth football joins the CDA after a long career with Catholic tradition shaping his path.

Christopher Toselli was officially announced as the new keeper for the University from Chile for all of 2023 after successfully passing the rigorous medical tests with the Romantic Traveler. He signs on to compete with Cristóbal Campos and Pedro Garrido for a starting spot, bringing leadership and reliability to the goal. Born in Antofagasta, Toselli becomes the sixth domestic reinforcement for the season as the team aims to reclaim the leadership role it has not held in the last four campaigns.

“Elastic reflexes, quick reactions, and confident distribution with the feet are among Toselli’s standout traits. He is also recognized for his professionalism and solid character. The goalkeeper will join the squad’s training sessions next Tuesday, ready to compete for the Romántico Viajero arc and help Mauricio Pellegrino’s team tackle the challenges of 2023,” stated the club in its official communications.

Having finished third in the world at the 2007 Canada tournament, Toselli has been a World Cup participant in 2014, a Copa América champion in 2016, a Confederations Cup runner-up in 2017, and a China Cup winner in 2017. He enjoyed a prolific spell with Universidad Católica, clinching five Primera División titles, two Supercups, and a Chile Cup. After the contract with his lifelong club ended on December 31, a new era unfolds at the arch-rivals.

WORTH

Toselli joins León on a free transfer, with the financial aspects limited to the monthly salaries for January through December 2023. According to Transfermarkt, the goalkeeper is valued at 500,000 euros, about 350,000 euros less than Campos, underscoring a strategic roster balance for the upcoming season.

STATUS

In 2022, Toselli began as the first-choice goalkeeper at Central Córdoba in Santiago del Estero but relinquished the starting role after 24 appearances and conceding 39 goals, finishing the year on the bench behind César Rigamonti until the early changes in 2023. He arrives at the CDA with a clear objective: to persuade Mauricio Pellegrino that he possesses the qualities needed to win the starting position and become a cornerstone of the defense.

He comes to the CDA with a proven track record, a wealth of international experience, and a desire to contribute to a squad intent on reclaiming the top spot in domestic and continental play.
