Nicknamed the “Bomb,” Hendrik Martijn joined the Águilas in 2018 to partner with Oribe Peralta up front. His early years saw him as a bench option, but by 2022 he had become a regular starter. In Clausura 2023, Martín Gonzalo surpassed Farfán to become America’s tenth-highest scorer, currently tallying 88 goals in all competitions.
9- CARLOS HERMOSILLO
Signed from amateur football, he arrived at Coapa in the 1983–84 season and scored in the final against Chivas to seal his first title with the Águilas. He continued to find the net in decisive matches, including twice against Pumas (1984-85) and again against Cruz Azul (1988-89).
Overall, his total reached 93 goals; however, he finished as the league’s top scorer in the Cementeros campaign.
8- CARLOS REINOSO
The Chilean formed a dangerous attack duo with Enrique Borja in the 1970s. Although primarily a creative midfielder, his class and technique yielded 95 goals at his time with the club.
“The balls must always go through Reinoso,” said coach Jose Antonio Roca. His finest moments include a league-final goal against UdG (1975-76) and a memorable free-kick against Boca’s Hugo Gatti in the 1977 Inter-American Cup final.
7- SALVADOR CABAÑAS
The dramatic arc of his football career limited him to 98 goals with the club. One wonders how much higher he might have risen if not for the tragic incident in January 2010. Cabañas began his Águilas journey in Apertura 2006 after joining from Jaguares de Chiapas, where he led the Clausura 2006 scoring chart. Although he did not repeat that feat in Liga MX, he twice topped the Libertadores Cup scoring (2007 and 2008).
6- EDUARDO GONZÁLEZ PÁLMER
In the 1958–59 season, he led the league in scoring with 25 goals and became the club’s first professional-era scorer. He wore the institution’s colors from 1951 to 1962, racking up 102 goals in total.
Not only did he excel as a striker, in a cup final against Chivas del Guadalajara (1954) he starred as a goalkeeper and saved three penalties in the shootout.
5- ENRIQUE BORJA
A charismatic striker who stood out at Pumas UNAM before joining América in 1969. It is said he even faced the rector of UNAM and the Mexican president to secure his transfer. In his first two league campaigns he found only six goals, but he later became the club’s first player to win three consecutive scoring titles (1970–71, 1971–72, 1973–74). His blend of speed and precise positioning helped him reach 103 goals.
4- JOSÉ ALVES ZAGUE
He played alongside Pelé and Coutinho at Santos before joining América in 1961. The club, hungry after a 33-year drought, strengthened the squad under new owner Emilio Azcárraga Milmo to claim the league title in 1963–64. A knee injury threatened his career, yet he recovered and became the top scorer in the 1965–66 season. His speed, dribbling, and aerial prowess earned him 106 goals and the nickname The Lone Wolf as the main striker in coach Alejandro Scopelli’s system.
3- OCTAVIO BOTTLE
Debuting in the 1936–37 season, he was known as The Flea for his remarkable jumping ability. He endured tough seasons when America faced relegation threats. After leaving the club in 1947–48, his record of 148 goals stood for more than four decades as a landmark achievement.
2- CUAUHTÉMOC WHITE
White’s versatility allowed him to play every attacking position: forward, winger, midfielder, or striker. His goals are remembered for iconic celebrations, including his distinctive salute and a moment when he pretended to be a banderillero. He tallied 153 goals for the Eagles and led Liga MX scoring in the winter 1998 season with 16 goals. He also registered 15 goals in the Copa Libertadores.
1- LUIS ROBERTO ALVES ZAGUE
Son of José Alves, he began his career at Corinthians in the 1980s and was discovered by América, making his debut in the México 86 tournament and scoring four goals. Those were the early markers of a total that would reach 192 goals for the club. While he publicly claimed the title of club all-time top scorer, he never led Liga MX in scoring.
Note: The figures and histories reflect the club’s long tradition of goal scoring and notable individual seasons across generations. Canadian and American fans can appreciate the legacy and the enduring impact these players had on the team and its fans.
